Description

Angel Chicken is a creamy, comforting slow cooker dish featuring tender chicken breasts cooked in a rich cream cheese and Italian dressing sauce. Served over delicate angel hair pasta and garnished with fresh Italian parsley and Parmesan cheese, this recipe delivers flavorful and easy-to-make dinner that melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Sauce

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 chicken breasts (about 1 ½ pounds)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 Tablespoons butter (softened)
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 0.6 ounce Italian dressing seasoning packet (about 2 tablespoons)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Pasta and Garnish

  • 16 ounces angel hair pasta
  • Fresh Italian parsley (chopped, for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season and Sear Chicken: Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chicken for 2-3 minutes per side until golden but not cooked through. Set aside.
  2. Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the softened cream cheese, butter, chicken broth, minced garlic, and Italian dressing seasoning until smooth.
  3. Start Slow Cooking: Place the seared chicken breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker. Pour the prepared cream cheese mixture over the chicken.
  4. Cook Chicken in Slow Cooker: Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. Remove Chicken: Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and set it aside.
  6. Prepare Sauce Thickener: Mix the heavy cream and cornstarch in a small bowl until completely combined and smooth. Stir this mixture into the slow cooker with the cooking liquid.
  7. Thicken Sauce: Return the whole chicken breasts to the slow cooker, cover and cook for another 15-20 minutes on high to thicken the sauce.
  8. Cook Pasta: While the sauce thickens, cook the angel hair pasta in boiling salted water according to the package directions. Drain well.
  9. Serve: Serve the chicken breasts over the angel hair pasta and spoon the creamy sauce on top. Garnish with freshly chopped Italian parsley and grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh garlic instead of pre-minced for a more vibrant flavor.
  • You can substitute Italian dressing seasoning with a blend of dried herbs like oregano, basil, garlic powder, and onion powder if needed.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, let the sauce cook a few extra minutes past the suggested time.
  • Ensure chicken breasts are not overcooked to maintain juiciness.
  • This dish pairs well with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad.
