Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
Vegetable Mixture
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups broccoli florets, blanched
Cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Custard
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the quiche thoroughly and evenly.
- Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out the pre-made pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie plate. Trim any excess pastry and crimp the edges for a decorative finish.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onions become translucent and fragrant.
- Add Broccoli: Stir the blanched broccoli florets into the skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook gently for 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors, then remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Assemble Filling: Spread the broccoli mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared pie crust. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
- Prepare Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Combine and Pour: Carefully pour the egg custard mixture over the broccoli and cheddar in the pie crust, making sure it is evenly distributed.
- Add Parmesan Cheese: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the custard mixture for a flavorful golden crust.
- Bake the Quiche: Place the quiche onto the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the filling is fully set and the top is a lovely golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the quiche from the oven and let it cool at least 10 minutes before slicing to allow the filling to set for clean slices and optimal flavor.
Notes
- Blanching the broccoli before using helps maintain its vibrant green color and tenderness in the quiche.
- Ensure the pie crust edges are well crimped to prevent shrinkage during baking.
- Allowing the quiche to cool before slicing ensures it holds together better and improves texture.
- You can substitute milk with half-and-half or whole milk for a richer filling.
- For added flavor, sprinkle a pinch of smoked paprika or chopped fresh herbs like thyme or parsley before baking.
