Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 1 (6 to 7-pound) bone-in prime rib roast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
Seasoning Mix:
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (chopped)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Prepare the Prime Rib: Remove the prime rib from the refrigerator at least 2 hours before cooking. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Season the Roast: In a small bowl, mix olive oil, salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, garlic, and onion powder into a paste. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the roast.
- Roast the Prime Rib: Place the roast bone-side down in a roasting pan fitted with a rack. Roast at 450°F for 20 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C) and continue roasting for about 1 hour and 45 minutes, or until desired doneness.
- Rest and Carve: Remove the roast from the oven, tent it loosely with foil, and let it rest for 20 to 30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider dry-brining the roast for 24 hours before cooking.
- Serve with horseradish sauce or au jus for a classic holiday touch.
