Ingredients
Scale
Sauce and Beans
- 2 (10.5 ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup (cream of chicken works well too!)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- Black pepper, to taste
- 5 (14.5 ounce) cans of green beans, drained
Topping
- 2-3 cups French fried onions (such as French’s)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the casserole evenly.
- Mix Ingredients: In a 13×9 inch baking dish, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and drained green beans. Stir everything together until well mixed.
- Bake Base: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to heat through.
- Add Topping and Finish Baking: Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle the French fried onions evenly over the top, then return it to the oven. Bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp and brown the onions.
Notes
- You can substitute cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom for a slightly different flavor.
- Drain the canned green beans well to prevent the casserole from becoming too watery.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or garlic powder to the mix.
- Use fresh green beans if preferred; blanch them before mixing.
- The topping should be added only during the last 5 minutes to keep it crispy.
