Ingredients
Scale
Biscuits
- 2 (1 lb) cans buttermilk biscuits
Meat
- 1 (7 oz) package pepperoni
Cheese
- 3-4 cups mozzarella cheese, divided
- 3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
Sauce & Seasoning
- 2 (16 oz) jars pizza sauce, divided
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning, divided
Others
- Nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a deep 9×13 inch casserole dish with nonstick spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Cut and Layer Biscuits – First Layer: Open the first can of biscuits and use scissors to cut each biscuit into sixths (cut each biscuit in half, then cut each half into three). Arrange these biscuit pieces evenly on the bottom of the greased casserole dish.
- Add Pepperoni – First Half: Take half of the pepperoni package and cut each slice into quarters using scissors. Spread the cut pepperoni evenly over the biscuit layer in the dish.
- Sprinkle Mozzarella Cheese: Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese over the pepperoni layer to add cheesy richness.
- Spread Pizza Sauce: Evenly spread one jar of pizza sauce over the mozzarella cheese layer to infuse classic pizza flavor.
- Season: Sprinkle half a tablespoon of Italian seasoning evenly over the sauce to enhance the taste with Italian herbs.
- Second Biscuit Layer: Cut the remaining can of biscuits the same way and layer them on top of the seasoned sauce.
- Add Remaining Pepperoni and Sauce: Spread the remaining half of the pepperoni, cut as before, over the second biscuit layer. Then, spread half of the remaining jar of pizza sauce over the pepperoni. Sprinkle with the remaining half tablespoon of Italian seasoning.
- Add More Cheese: Sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of mozzarella cheese on top depending on how cheesy you prefer the casserole.
- Top with Parmesan: Grate 3 to 4 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese over the very top for a sharp, savory finish.
- Cover and Bake: Spray a sheet of foil with nonstick spray to prevent sticking and cover the casserole dish. Place the casserole on a large baking sheet to catch any bubbling over. Bake at 350°F for about 60 minutes.
- Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes until the top is browned and a toothpick or fork inserted into the middle biscuit comes out clean, indicating it is fully cooked.
- Serve: Serve the casserole warm, accompanied by the leftover half jar of warmed pizza sauce for dipping or drizzling.
Notes
- Use scissors to cut biscuits and pepperoni for even-sized pieces and less mess.
- Adjust mozzarella cheese quantity to preference for cheesiness.
- Covering the dish initially helps biscuits cook through without drying out.
- Placing the casserole on a baking sheet prevents oven spills from bubbling sauce.
- Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the biscuit layer to ensure it is cooked inside.
- Leftover pizza sauce warmed for dipping adds extra flavor when serving.
