Description

A delightful and festive Fig, Goat Cheese & Pistachio Wreath featuring flaky puff pastry filled with creamy goat cheese, sweet dried figs, and crunchy pistachios. This elegant appetizer is perfect for holiday gatherings or special occasions, combining sweet, savory, and nutty flavors in a beautiful wreath shape.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, if frozen)

Filling

  • 4 oz goat cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or crème fraîche
  • 1/2 cup dried figs, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Toppings and Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)
  • Fresh rosemary for garnish (optional)

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the wreath.
  2. Prepare the Goat Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the softened goat cheese with the heavy cream or crème fraîche. Mix until smooth and creamy, then season with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the lined baking sheet. Use a rolling pin to gently roll out the pastry, smoothing any creases and ensuring it’s large enough to form the wreath.
  4. Assemble the Wreath: Spread the goat cheese mixture evenly in the center of the puff pastry, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle chopped dried figs and pistachios evenly over the cheese layer.
  5. Form the Wreath: Cut slits about 1 to 2 inches wide around the edge of the pastry to create strips. Fold each strip over the filling, overlapping them to shape a circular wreath. Tuck the ends of the strips underneath to secure the shape.
  6. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush this evenly over the exposed pastry to help it brown and develop a glossy finish during baking.
  7. Bake the Wreath: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Serve: Allow the wreath to cool for a few minutes. Drizzle with honey if desired, garnish with fresh rosemary, and serve warm for the best flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • You can substitute crème fraîche with sour cream or Greek yogurt if preferred.
  • Make sure the puff pastry is properly chilled before unrolling to prevent sticking or tearing.
  • The wreath can be assembled a few hours ahead and refrigerated; just brush with egg wash right before baking.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the pistachios or replace with toasted seeds.
  • This recipe works well as an appetizer or a savory brunch dish.
