Ingredients
Scale
For the Ginger Syrup
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup water
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon unsulphured molasses
- 1 cinnamon stick
For the Cocktail
- 1½ ounces tequila (El Mayor Reposado recommended)
- ¾ ounce Tuaca liqueur (or substitute vanilla vodka)
- ¾ ounce ginger syrup (from above)
- 1 tablespoon whipped cream (or Cool Whip)
- Whipped cream, for garnish
- Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
- Crushed or whole gingerbread cookies, for garnish
Instructions
- Make the Ginger Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, ground ginger, molasses, and the cinnamon stick. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has fully dissolved. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 1 minute to infuse the flavors. Remove from heat and let it cool. Strain out the cinnamon stick before using.
- Prepare the Cocktail: In a shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, Tuaca liqueur (or vanilla vodka), and the cooled ginger syrup. Shake well to chill and blend the flavors. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass. Add 1 tablespoon of whipped cream on top, and garnish with extra whipped cream, a cinnamon stick, and crushed or whole gingerbread cookies for an elegant presentation.
Notes
- The ginger syrup can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- For a non-alcoholic version, substitute tequila and Tuaca with ginger ale or ginger beer and vanilla syrup.
- Adjust the amount of ginger syrup to taste for varying sweetness and spiciness.
- Use unsulphured molasses to avoid any bitter aftertaste.
- Chilling the martini glass beforehand enhances the drinking experience.
