Description

This classic Hot Dog Chili recipe is a flavorful, hearty sauce made with ground beef and a perfect blend of spices, simmered to perfection. Ideal for topping hot dogs, this easy-to-make chili brings a rich, tangy, and slightly sweet taste that complements any hot dog or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 2 lbs. ground beef

Chili Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white onion (finely minced)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. ground mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: Over medium-high heat in a large pot, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart into small crumbles. Once fully cooked, drain the excess fat and return the beef to the pot.
  2. Add ingredients: Add the ketchup, tomato sauce, water, minced onion, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, ground mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Stir everything together until well combined.
  3. Simmer the chili: Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer gently for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the chili thickens too much, add a bit more water or ketchup to reach your desired consistency.
  4. Serve: Spoon the warm chili generously over cooked hot dogs and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a spicier chili, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to taste.
  • Make sure to crumble the beef finely for the best texture.
  • This chili can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
  • Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content if desired.
  • Adjust seasoning according to your preference before serving.
