Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 lb. fresh green beans
- 1 tsp. salt (plus more for serving)
- 1-2 Tbsp. butter (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the water: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil, adding 1 teaspoon of salt to season the water as it heats.
- Trim the green beans: While waiting for the water to boil, snap off the stems of the green beans by hand or use a knife to trim and remove the ends.
- Boil the green beans: Using a slotted spoon, carefully add the green beans to the boiling water. Boil them for about 4 to 5 minutes until they reach a crisp tender texture. Start checking at 3 minutes to prevent overcooking.
- Drain and serve: Drain the green beans in a colander placed in the sink. Serve immediately with 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter and additional salt to taste. Enjoy your perfectly boiled green beans!
Notes
- For extra crispness, immediately plunge boiled beans into ice water (blanching) after boiling to stop cooking and set color.
- Butter is optional but adds richness and flavor to the green beans.
- Adjust boiling time slightly depending on your preference for doneness.
- Fresh green beans are preferable for best flavor and texture.
