Description

This Instant Pot Orange Cake is a moist and flavorful dessert made quickly with a cake mix and fresh orange zest. The cake is cooked using the pressure cooking function of the Instant Pot, creating a tender crumb with a delicate orange glaze on top. Perfect for a simple yet impressive treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Ingredients

  • 1 orange cake mix box
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup canola oil

Instant Pot

  • 1 cup water (for the Instant Pot insert)

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Grease all sides of the cake pan thoroughly to ensure the cake releases easily after cooking.
  2. Add water to Instant Pot: Pour 1 cup of water into the Instant Pot insert to generate steam for pressure cooking.
  3. Make the batter: In a mixing bowl, beat together the orange cake mix, 1 cup of water, 1/3 cup canola oil, and 3 large eggs until well combined and smooth.
  4. Pour batter in pan: Transfer the batter into the greased cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Cover with paper towel: Gently place a paper towel over the top of the cake pan to catch condensation.
  6. Seal with foil: Cover the paper towel with aluminum foil and secure it tightly around the rim of the cake pan to prevent water from dripping onto the batter.
  7. Set in Instant Pot: Place the cake pan onto the Instant Pot trivet and insert the trivet carefully into the Instant Pot.
  8. Program Instant Pot: Press the “Cake” button, select the “Less” setting, and adjust the cook time to 50 minutes.
  9. Natural pressure release: When cooking ends, allow the Instant Pot to release pressure naturally for best texture.
  10. Prepare glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and milk until you achieve your preferred glaze consistency.
  11. Add orange zest: Stir in the orange zest into the glaze to enhance its citrus flavor.
  12. Glaze the cake: Pour the glaze over the top of the cooled cake and let it set until hardened.
  13. Serve: Cut the cake into portions and enjoy your moist Instant Pot Orange Cake.

Notes

  • Make sure to cover the cake pan tightly with foil and a paper towel to prevent water from dripping onto the batter during pressure cooking.
  • You can adjust the milk quantity in the glaze to get the glaze thickness you prefer.
  • Natural pressure release helps to keep the cake moist and prevents collapse.
  • If you don’t have an Instant Pot, this cake can be baked in a conventional oven according to the cake mix box instructions.
  • Use fresh orange zest for the best citrus flavor in both the cake and glaze.
