Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Burgers
- 1 lb Ground Chicken (93% lean for best results)
- 1/2 cup Feta Cheese (can substitute with goat cheese or omit for dairy-free)
- 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
- 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley (or dill)
- 1 tsp Dried Oregano (fresh works if available)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper (freshly ground)
- 1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp Lemon Zest
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (or almond flour for gluten-free)
- 1 large Egg (for binding)
For Serving
- 1 cup Tzatziki Sauce (fresh or store-bought)
- 2 cups Fresh Vegetables (lettuce, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers)
- 4 pieces Buns or Pita (whole grain or gluten-free)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, crumbled feta, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Add lemon zest and lemon juice for a bright flavor. Mix well to evenly distribute all ingredients.
- Bind and Shape Patties: Add the breadcrumbs and the egg to the chicken mixture. Use your hands or a spoon to mix thoroughly until the mixture holds together. Divide into four equal portions and shape each into a burger patty about 3/4 inch thick.
- Cook the Burgers: Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium heat and lightly oil it. Cook the chicken patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through and golden brown on the outside. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Assemble the Burgers: Toast the buns or pita lightly if desired. Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on the bottom half, add the cooked chicken patty, then top with fresh lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and cucumbers. Cover with the top bun or pita.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the burgers immediately while warm, paired with extra tzatziki sauce and your favorite side dishes for a delicious and refreshing Mediterranean meal.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, omit the feta cheese and use almond flour instead of breadcrumbs for gluten-free diets.
- Fresh herbs like dill or mint can be substituted for parsley to vary the flavor.
- Adjust red pepper flakes according to spice preference or omit for a milder taste.
- Ensure the chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
- Leftover patties can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently in a skillet.
