Description

These delightful Mini Apple Pies offer a perfect handheld dessert bursting with warm, spiced apple filling wrapped in flaky premade pie dough. Easy to prepare and bake, they are ideal for parties, snacks, or a comforting treat any time of year.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, diced)
  • â…“ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Dough and Topping

  • 1 package premade pie dough
  • Beaten egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse brown sugar (for sprinkling)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and add the diced apples, brown sugar, and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger). Cook over medium heat until the apples are slightly softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the vanilla extract and cornstarch slurry to thicken the mixture. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. Prepare Dough Circles: On a floured surface, roll out the premade pie dough to an even thickness. Using a round cutter, cut out circles sized to fit into muffin tins for mini pies.
  3. Assemble Mini Pies: Grease a muffin tin lightly. Place a dough circle at the bottom of each muffin cup, pressing gently to line the cup. Spoon the cooled apple filling into each dough-lined cup. Cover each with another dough circle and seal the edges by pressing with fingers or a fork to prevent filling from leaking.
  4. Apply Egg Wash and Sugar Topping: Brush the tops of the mini pies with the beaten egg to give a golden finish. Sprinkle coarse brown sugar over each pie for added sweetness and crunch.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake the mini pies for about 25 minutes until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the mini pies to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature as a sweet snack or dessert.

Notes

  • You can substitute the premade pie dough with homemade pie crust if preferred.
  • Adjust the spices according to your taste preference; more cinnamon or ginger can be added for extra warmth.
  • Make sure the apple filling is cooled before assembling to prevent the dough from becoming soggy.
  • For a dairy-free version, use vegan butter and an egg substitute for the wash.
  • Store leftover pies in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving for best taste.
