Ingredients
Scale
Eggs
- 6 large eggs
Filling
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- â…› teaspoon garlic powder
- â…› teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Pinch of cayenne pepper or paprika (optional)
Garnish
- Smoked paprika
- Sliced jalapeño (optional)
- Chopped chives or parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Boil the eggs: Place 6 large eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover the pan and remove it from heat. Let the eggs sit, covered, for 10 to 12 minutes to cook through.
- Cool the eggs: Drain the hot water and immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water. Let them cool completely to stop the cooking process and make peeling easier.
- Peel the eggs: Once cooled, gently peel the eggshells off the eggs and rinse if necessary to remove shell fragments.
- Prepare the yolks: Slice each egg in half lengthwise. Carefully scoop out the yolks and place them into a mixing bowl.
- Mash yolks: Using a fork, mash the yolks until they are crumbly and smooth, breaking up any large pieces.
- Mix the filling: Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and optional cayenne or paprika to the mashed yolks. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Fill egg whites: Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture back into the hollowed-out egg white halves, generously filling each cavity and mounding slightly on top.
- Add garnish: Sprinkle the filled eggs with smoked paprika. Optionally, top with sliced jalapeños and chopped chives or parsley for extra flavor and presentation.
- Serve: Serve the spicy deviled eggs chilled or at room temperature as a flavorful appetizer or snack.
Notes
- You can adjust the heat level by increasing or decreasing the amount of hot sauce and cayenne pepper.
- Using a piping bag for the yolk mixture creates a neater presentation, but spooning works well too.
- These deviled eggs can be made a few hours ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
- For a milder flavor, omit the jalapeño slices and cayenne pepper.
- Make sure eggs are fully cooled before peeling to prevent tearing the whites.
